NVAC Charity Fiesta 2010

Vision:
It's about making that difference.

Charity Fiesta 2010 seeks to highlight to the public of Singapore that the today's youth of Singapore are not only concerned about the community and the less privileged and disadvantaged, but willing to go out there and make the difference.

It also seeks to change the perception of youths, especially the undergraduates not currently actively involved in voluntary service, to be more proactive in seeking out for opportunities to assist others less fortunate.

With this vision in mind, it is hoped that upon completion of the project, there would be more young altruistic individuals who will make it their personal duty to help to serve the general population especially the less fortunate, and strives to make that same difference for someone else all over again.

Mission:
1) To carry out something in a scale large enough such that it will empower more youths to believe that no matter the difficulties of the obstacles, with the proper mindset, capabilities and endurance, dreams are still achievable and differences can still be made.

2) To raise the awareness of our participating beneficiaries to the whole public of Singapore.

3) To promote the spirit of volunteerism and altruism amongst the youth of Singapore, in particular NUS undergraduates.

4) To promote social leadership and personal development among its volunteers to enable and empower them to better serve the community for the betterment of others.

5) To help raise a substantial amount of funds for our participating beneficiaries.

About Charity Fiesta

Initiated in 1992, Charity Fiesta is the annual flagship outreach event organized by the NUSSU Volunteer Action Committee (NVAC).

Its aims and agenda had over the years come to encompass the following
1) Raising awareness of its selected beneficiaries
2) Promoting volunteerism amongst undergraduates and youths
3) Raising funds for our participating beneficiaries.

Charity Fiesta was moved into public venues for the first time in 2003, with an added emphasis of spreading the message of volunteerism amongst the local youth. Over the years since then, this event has been held at various venues such as Suntec City, Jurong East, Junction 8 and Esplanade Park, reaching out to enrich the lives of both volunteers and beneficiaries.

Since its inception, Charity Fiesta has raised more than $400,000 for more than 40 Voluntary Welfare Organizations (VWOs) in Singapore, as well as garnered the prestigious Commonwealth Youth Award 2007/2008 for its excellence in community work and the promotion of the spirit of volunteerism among undergraduates.

About NUSSU Vounteer Action Committee

The NUS Students’ Union Volunteer Action Committee (NVAC) is a wholly student-driven volunteer organisation under the umbrella of the National University of Singapore. Established in 1990 with the initial aim of providing an avenue for undergraduates to volunteer their time to help the less fortunate in society, the NVAC has since grown to become a leading student volunteer organisation in Singapore. Today, NVAC has more than 350 dedicated and committed volunteers who carry out a range of regular volunteering programmes, special community events as well as overseas humanitarian missions.

Over the years, the focus of our activities has broadened beyond just serving the community through direct volunteering, to the empowerment of youths and the encouragement of community & student initiatives, to address social service issues facing our society. Together with our annual activities such as Volunteer Awareness Fair and Charity Fiesta, we strive to expand and promote volunteerism in NUS, while enriching and making a difference in the lives of both volunteers and beneficiaries.
